I failed a course. What happens now?
Generally, if you are unsuccessful in a course, you are not able to take any courses for which that course is a prerequisite.
Example: ENL1813T Communications I is a prerequisite for ENL8720 Technical Communication for Technicians. You would not be able to take ENL1813T until ENL8720 is successfully completed.
Following release of final grades, your schedule for the upcoming term will be adjusted to add the courses you were unsuccessful in and remove the courses you are not yet able to take. If you failed a course, please be sure to monitor your timetable for next term very carefully.
If you have additional questions, please consult your Academic Advisor.
What if next term is a scheduled break in my program?
If you are on a scheduled break next term and would like to use that break to “catch up” by retaking a failed course, please speak with your Academic Advisor to determine whether this is possible.
What if I'm not registered for next term?
If you are not registered for next term (for example, if this was to be your final term; if you did not defer/pay your fees on time), please speak with your Academic Advisor to request a returning status and course load.
Important note on ICT programs:
- If you are in an Information Communications Technology (ICT) program, please consult the information in your Brightspace homeroom regarding progression requirements, as failing core courses may impact your ability to continue in the program (see “What is an “Indicator Course?").
- Similarly, if you are on a Learning Contract in an ICT program, please consult the terms of that contract.
- If you are in Computer Systems Technician - Networking, please consult your Brightspace Homeroom for an announcement about how to get registered for a retake.
