The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) provides assistance to students with disabilities. Their staff works one-on-one with students to help them meet their individual needs. The CAL can help you in the following ways:
- Letter of Accommodation: The CAL can work with you to write and update your Letter of Accommodation, a confidential document describing the academic accommodations to which you are entitled (such as additional time on tests). You are responsible for providing your instructors and Program Coordinator with a copy of your Letter and for discussing your needs with them.
- Learning Strategy Support: The CAL Learning Strategists can help you develop learning strategies, such as time management, taking notes in class, and preparing for tests, so that you can perform your best in your classes.
- Assistive Technology: The CAL provides needs assessments, training, and access to a fully equipped Assistive Technology (AT) Lab and Accessible Print-Based Services. You can access tools that facilitate your ability to be successful in your courses. Assistive Technologists will work with you to train you on the equipment.
- Exam/Test Accommodations: CAL provides services and support for students who want to book tests with accommodations. They assist with all supervised in-person and virtual tests — from quizzes to midterms to final exams — when your professor is unable to provide your requested accommodations in the classroom.
- Residence Attendant Services: Algonquin College provides non-medical assistance with everyday tasks, 24 hours per day, eight months of the year. The service is available at no cost to residents of Ontario; Canadian students from outside of Ontario, and international students, may be sponsored by their own governments for a portion of their attendant services expense.
- Support for Students with Autism: Support is provided through the Transition Support Centre.
- Support for Apprentices: Support is provided through the Apprenticeship Success Centre
