Course type: Where will my course be held? Online or on campus?

Courses at Algonquin can be delivered in different formats or instruction modes, ranging from totally on-campus to totally online. 
The instruction mode for each of your courses will appear on the View Timetable page in ACSIS, in your course list. Here are the different possible course instruction modes you may see on your timetable:

  • In Person: You will attend the course on campus, on specific days and times during the week.  

  • In Person Hybrid: You will attend the course on campus on specific days and times during the week. In addition, you will complete online, self-directed course work. 

  • Synchronous Online: You will attend the course online on specific days and times during the week, through virtual lectures in tools such as Zoom. 

  • Synchronous Online Hybrid: You will attend the course online on specific days and times during the week, through virtual lectures in tools such as Zoom. In addition, you will complete online, self-directed course work. 

  • Asynchronous Online: This course is online and self-directed, which means there are no scheduled class times. There are no lectures or regular classes. Instead, you will learn the material through assigned readings, assignments, etc., with set due dates. 

  • Flex: You will attend the course on specific days and times during the week. You will have the choice of whether to attend on campus and/or join the class virtually through a video meeting tool such as Zoom. 

  • Flex Hybrid: You will attend the course on specific days and times during the week. You will have the choice of whether to attend on campus and/or join the class virtually through a video meeting tool such as Zoom. In addition, you will complete online, self-directed course work. 

  • AC Online Asynchronous: This course is offered through the AC Online campus. It is online and self-directed, which means there are no scheduled class times. There are no lectures or regular classes in this type of course. Instead, you will learn the material through assigned readings, assignments, etc. This course will have a later start date and will not have a mid-term break week.
