Courses at Algonquin can be delivered in different formats or instruction modes, ranging from totally on-campus to totally online.
The instruction mode for each of your courses will appear on the View Timetable page in ACSIS, in your course list. Here are the different possible course instruction modes you may see on your timetable:
-
In Person: You will attend the course on campus, on specific days and times during the week.
-
Synchronous Online: You will attend the course online on specific days and times during the week, through virtual lectures in tools such as Zoom.
-
Asynchronous Online: This course is online and self-directed, which means there are no scheduled class times. There are no lectures or regular classes. Instead, you will learn the material through assigned readings, assignments, etc., with set due dates.
-
Flex: You will attend the course on specific days and times during the week. You will have the choice of whether to attend on campus and/or join the class virtually through a video meeting tool such as Zoom.
-
AC Online Asynchronous: This course is offered through the AC Online campus. It is online and self-directed, which means there are no scheduled class times. There are no lectures or regular classes in this type of course. Instead, you will learn the material through assigned readings, assignments, etc. This course will have a later start date and will not have a mid-term break week.
Tip: Whenever your course instruction mode includes the word “Hybrid” (e.g. "In-person hybrid,") it means that the course includes additional online, self-directed coursework.
