Unscheduled breaks: Can I take a break from my studies?
Last Updated: Mar 25, 2024 Views: 840

If you are considering taking a break from your studies and you know you would like to return to your program, it may be possible to take what is referred to as an unscheduled break. An unscheduled break is a break in studies that is not a part of the program's scheduled progression.

First, speak with your Program Coordinator or Student Advisor (AC Online) to discuss your options and whether a break is possible for your program. They will also be able to explain the process of returning to your studies. International students must also speak with an International Student Advisor for information on unscheduled breaks (also referred to as authorized leave by the IRCC) to ensure they continue to meet the conditions of their student visa/study permit.

Taking an unscheduled break involves withdrawing from the program and returning at a later date. Please follow the instructions on the Program Withdrawal/Transfer website to begin the withdrawal process.
